Hello beautiful people,
Just finished watching Julie & Julia and what a gorgeous movie it was. If you haven’t seen it – see it!
I find it fascinating though that I can watch such an inspirational story and end up making the whole thing all about me! Yes I was in awe of how these two women, Julia Childs and Julie Powell turned their passion for food into a cookbook, television show, (Julia) blog, book and movie (Julie), had the love of a good man and a purpose in life to make a difference and there I was sitting googled eyed to the screen comparing the movie to my own life’s journey.
It didn’t matter that the topic of food and sexuality were worlds apart. All that mattered was that I could see a little of myself in both these women and watched how with passion, purpose and the love of a good man they made their dreams become reality.
I write a blog about my life (as if you didn’t know!) and would love to have the kind of following that Julie has. I’d also love to come home one day after an article had been written about me in a newspaper and find sixty-five messages on the answering machine with all kinds of offers from agents and publishers etc to have my story put in print. And I’d definitely love to have my book go into its forty-ninth print run.
Not like the article that was published in the Sydney Morning Herald and the Age’s Green Guide on Insight that mentioned us!
As warm and fuzzy and inspirational as it all was I also found that I was somewhat saddened by the fact that Julie had Julia to look up to and emulate. I on the other hand have no one, at least no one that I am aware of. Flying blind and solo, that’s what I feel like I’m doing and with such a controversial topic too. Some days I’m not sure if I really have it in me to see this through.
I guess the lesson here for me is to remember that with passion, purpose and the love of a good man, I can turn my dreams of making a difference into a reality and that at times it is going to be a bumpy ride. I’ve just got to remember on those rough days to wear a stack hat (helmet) to protect myself from injury!
Love and hugs,
